What is Green Screen shooting?
Green Screen shooting is essentially taking still images of a person or object of focus but the background is replaced with a screen that is completely green in colour.
As the background is completely green, this allows an editor to replace the existing green background with any desired background, which can give the impression that the scene was filmed in a different location. This also gives the editor the freedom of selecting their desired background.
Green screens shootings have been used in many places including in advertising firms where the background image is incorporated with CGI and special effects to give the image a new aesthetic.
Why is Green Screen Shooting preferred?
Green Screen shooting is normally prefered due to the ability to change the background, this gives the editor the flexibility to utilize the same image but put them into different background should the need for this arise.
In addition to the ability to change the background, green screen shooting is cheaper than traditional shooting where the background is a prop in the video or film. Physical background can be costly to create and natural backgrounds are hard to find and take photos with, hence green screen shooting is the better alternative than its traditional counterpart.
Compared to other methods of chrome keying such as blue screen shooting, green screen shooting is better as the colour green is more distinct than most other colours.
