Expectations, Reality and Going with the Flow

What an interesting year 2020 has been! Yes I said interesting (although I suspect many would have selected another stronger adjective!). We capped off 2019 on a high note and entered 2020 with buoyant optimism and strong client backing but as they say – the best laid plans of mice and men – the year that ensued: pandemic, lockdowns, cancellations, politics, and economic repercussions was literally a tail spin.

Globally, the event industry took an unexpectedly hard hit and we were forced to roll with the punches. What does one do when you can’t look outwards and plan due to mounting variables? When the goal post keeps changing? Well for us at DCS Entertainment, we instead chose to look inwards, consolidated our resources, and objectively reviewed our processes. We ooked at internal projects that had been on the back burner, oh you know those “no time for these; let’s just service the paying clients first” sort of projects. We all have them stuffed in folders optimistically labelled “Internal WIP” on our desktops. Where it sits … and waits.

Which brings us to our rebranding – man these things take time, strategy and perspectives, audits, design and direction, objectivity tempered with subjectivity - 2020 is the year we took a long, hard look at ourselves and worked on redefining our vision and brand direction.

Welcome to the new DCS Entertainment website, complete with our new logo. But not everything is new, our tagline of being your trusted Event Solutions Engineers remains. Our promise to create an event that is uniquely engineered for you through the highest level of customisation and service that you deserve and expect remains.

So please peruse and I hope you spot your successfully executed event taking place of pride on our pages. Now … The dangers of having a team with too much time on their hands – they think up creative projects for their boss.

Thanks 2020; Now Bring It On 2021

What an epic roller coaster 2020 has been for all of us! Pandemic, lockdowns, cancellations, political and economic repercussions – the year was literally a tail spin.

Globally people have learned how to adapt to unprecedented events and navigate a whole new way of working and living. While I was not expecting the amount of change 2020 brought to us, it certainly has been one for the history books. The events industry in particular has been one of the hardest hit in the face of Covid19, and it’s shaken every facet of our industry as we known it. Challenge after challenge coupled with lack of job oppurtunities and hence impacted income has sadly resulted in many of our counterparts being forced to shutter their operations. However, through resilience, prudent planning and strength of our client-relationships, we have persevered and still remain standing.

While the global pandemic spun out of our control we knew that we needed to connect with our community and our clients in new ways and so we did:

Assisting the Frontliners
With every passing month since March when the Movement Control Order was announced in Malaysia, it was fast becoming clear that the fog of uncertainty was here to stay. So, we decided that while we could not operate in our usual capacity, that will not stop us from helping the community where we could.

We did this by providing pro-bono manpower, tent, tables, chairs, and equipment to the Ministry of Health as they urgently deployed mobile testing services in areas that needed it the most. DCS Entertainment was on the ground with these frontliners and assisting with physical set up of the stations so that the medical teams could focus on their important tasks at hand. It was vital for us to continue supporting our community in any capacity we could.

Digital pivot
DCS Entertainment has also come together to serve clients in today’s expanded digital environment. While we miss meeting you face-to-face, we have tapped the latest technology to stay connected with you and deliver our services through various digital platforms that many of you have embraced. There is tremendous potential here and we are excited. Sadly, technology doesn’t replace the fun makan (dining) sessions though.

Rebranding of DCS
Since organising events was on a hiatus for us, 2020 was the year we utilised our energy to look inwards and fortify our internal operations; we embarked on a long overdue project of redefining our vision and revitalising our brand direction. I am proud to invite you to our new website at www.dcsentertainment.com complete with our new logo that signifies upwards growth, momentum and building on our soon 18 year brand legacy.

But not everything is new, our tagline of being your trusted ‘Event Solutions Engineers’ remains. Our promise to create events that are uniquely engineered for you through the highest level of customisation and service that you deserve and expect remains.

Looking back over the year, it has been inspiring to see communities come together to serve each other. While we as a society have struggled, there’s still a lot to be grateful for. So as we wrap up 2020, I am genuinely looking forward to 2021—hoping for fewer surprises than we experienced in 2020.

Clients often ask me whether I’m still optimistic about the future, and I say: YES! The reason is because while the world witnessed crisis after crisis unfold, we also took steps for better outcomes. I’m a big believer in the power of creatively empowering people, ideas and resources for change. Armed with the right mental attitude and innovation, we can all be a force for growth in 2021.

Wishing you and your loved ones a safe, happy, and healthy New Year.
